Hiding in your old pullover
Not your friend, just your coworker
Summer camp and bathroom stalls
Your oversized, blue overalls
Just kick me in the teeth already
You're far more than your circumstances
Part-time job, or bad romances
And certainly more than how your parents spin your
Lifestyle in their christmas letters
So answer me this
Do you feel defensive
When questioned about your life or your near future?

Instrument Of Torture
01:13
|

You're a clever little creature
Hear you whistle in my ear
You're an instrument of torture
The sound of two grinding gears
It's irrational to greet you
To address you by your name
You're the crooked, splintered floorboards
On which I rest in disgrace
Shut down your best defenses
Raw from your worst attempts

Title On Screen
01:54
|
|||
I believe the best part of any movie's anytime they say the title on screen
That way you know exactly where they got it
Where they're going and exactly what they mean
And it feels cohesive
And you get perspective
Please tell me how often and how
you even get that feeling in the real world?
Closest thing to god is what we make and how it makes you feel
Nothing rare, next to impossible, like how your parents met
Cuz they probably fell in love in school
Which isn't wrong
Just too convenient
Then again
It's just a product
That you consume when you're trying to kill time
And you just
Feel this romantic
Cuz it's your off switch
One thing you know makes sense
Unlike your hopes and your schemes
Your debts and your rent
The love that you get and fear when it ends
And you wanna hold tight to something at all
But your skin it feels loose
Cuz your self is too small
Could be a world for doing what you love
If we all said fuck the bottom line
If you think that the powers care at all
Then you just bought the lie
I believe the hardest part of any movie is when it's over and the tv is turned off

Tom Hanks
01:56
|
|||
Lately I've been feeling
Like Tom Hanks in that
One where he's just a kid and then gets real big
Or like Edward Norton
In that movie where he
Fights some strangers and is also that other guy
It's the decisions that I've made
It's not the aesthetic
Of anti-capitalists
And not the use of an anarchist plot twist
John Cusack has asked it
Am I so upset or
Am I programmed by art that seems sympathetic?
Self-righteous grandeur
My constitution fades
Responsible for
My love for my malaise

Tuxedo T-Shirt

Overturned front yard decorations
October beautiful and gray
How long did you take on your costume?
Did you decide on it today?
Same shoes, same jeans, tuxedo t-shirt
Either you forgot or you didn't care
I'm sure that you had a good reason
You're working a lot I bet it just slipped your
Mind your own damn business would ya?
It's incredible if most folks float
They'd sooner sink into the graves
You fetishize, you caramelize
You're so damn bored
It's so important to you
Maybe I just want you to hate everything as much as I do?
It's not important, of course you know this
I only wanted to see you either way

Emotional Sharingan

Reading up on a feeling you think you know
Reassuring as it is to know you're not alone
It still comes across as tasteless
Cutting out your eyes as you watch
Someone you love mocking a monologue
You think you're smart until they get the better of you
Imitating's not the same as feeling, you would
Reach out to me, try to console me
Consequence in sequence
Overreact in season
I didn't mean to be alone
But I know it's not wrong
I'll ignore the obvious
Pretending it all works out for the better
If I sound bitter it's only because I am
Oh, how I fucking am
Put down your fucking phone
I swear to god you'll be alone
Ridiculous, suspicious in the worst way
I got off the phone to tell you how I'm gonna change
But it's too late, you're gone before you know it
Soured on ideas, over my empty poetry

Do you wanna get high and hang out?
Maybe step outside and walk around?
Kick some trash down the street
Creep on some strangers watching their own tv
All the channels we'll see
My favorite episode of Scrubs on some rich dude's big screen
The one where Brendan Fraser dies, yeah
It makes me laugh and it makes me cry
Where do you think we are?
Some kids birthday or someplace warm?
A back yard or a cemetary?
Does it feel weird?
It's like election day all over again

Adult
01:32
|
|||
Well you're supposed to be an adult but you're spending your days
Bored and alone and in your parents' basement
Watching Japanese cartoons and waking up way past noon
So you dream your life's a sitcom, you're the star of the show
The laugh track's always running and the jokes don't get old
You've got problems, that's alright
Cuz at the end of the day it's always fine
Cuz you've got a job and you're happy
And the people will always stick around
Cuz they've got a place and you've got a place right now
Stay asleep
Week after week
You've found something but it's in your head
You think you've got a job and you're happy
You think that people will always stick around
That's a made up place in a made up part of town
So waste away
LIve inside your head
Then fall asleep
And burn your bed
